Market Chef – available

This opportunity is arguably the most important position available, although, as you will be earning money, it isn’t actually a volunteer position.  Cooking is not only an act of love, but our lunches serve as an educational opportunity to inspire our community to buy and eat locally grown food.

You would:

  • Name your operation
  • Utilize the Grange kitchen for food prep
  • Create your own menu with an emphasis on healthful, tasty, organic and locally grown. Your ingredient costs may range from $60 to $100 (according to your resourcefulness)
  • Set your own prices
  • Serve lunch to our customers from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. from May 30 thru October 10, rain or shine.  Lunch is served inside the Grange in bad weather.
  • Be consistent with your service and provide a high quality product
  • Be responsible for Lane County Temporary Restaurant License Fees ($220 were last year’s fees)
  • Be insured (approx $200)
  • Have a food handlers’ license
  • Pay the standard market membership ($15) & stall fees ($200)
  • Have a business plan and background experience
  • Enjoy an earnings potential of between $3000 and $5000 for the season

The Market would:

  • Fully subsidize the cost of renting the Grange kitchen, which includes cutlery and dishes
  • Set up and break down the dining area
  • Provide and set up the pop-up canopy and booth tables
  • Recruit volunteers to help with kitchen clean-up
  • Publicize your operation and supply some signage
